David Cotterill has told Bcfc.com that he is confident of getting close to the play-offs, provided they can keep the squad together and resist interest from elsewhere.

The Welsh winger is beginning his second pre-season with Blues, and admitted the double sessions are difficult in the heat of Marbella, Spain. He continued by saying there is no pressure playing under Rowett, even in pre-season training.

Training under Rowett was intensified when he took over the role, the players had to step up from the previous requirements under Clark.

As for the new players, Cotterill says Birmingham are an easy squad to settle into, everyone is humble and pulling in the right direction. It certainly appears to be a very happy camp at the club.

The new recruits have impressed the squad, with Both Gray and Cotterill putting on record the club have added quality. Although, both players have said they want to see a few more come in, a sentiment the fans feel as well.

Cotterill believes that Ipswich are ‘no better’ than Birmingham and that there isn’t any reason that the team can’t achieve a top six finish. The optimism among the players is there this season, a complete change around from last year. There are many good sides in this league and it won’t be easy.

As for his personal targets, Cotterill wants to break double figures in terms of goals and probably the same target is there for his assists. The right-sided winger produced some special strikes last year and revealed he is practicing to provide the fans with a few more.

A positive note from the interview is certainly, as the headline to this article reads, Cotterill wants the club to keep this squad together. He is happy with club and country and is focused on the season ahead at Birmingham.

Does this put to bed the rumors that Cardiff want to tempt him away?
