Two games against supposed promotion contenders, six points and two clean sheets. This afternoon’s performance against Fulham at Craven Cottage was close to the perfect away performance.

Clayton Donaldson, after missing a penalty in the first half, showed confidence to step up and smash a second penalty right down the middle for the only goal of the game.

Where have all the doom and gloom merchants dissapeared to? Where have the boo boys gone?

The game plan today was simple; sit back, watch Fulham spray the ball around while doing nothing with it, win possession, counter and be a threat and remain solid at the back. Job done.

It’s only early days but to see Blues sitting in third is very satisfying. Gary Rowett took his time to strengthen his squad and that has already paid dividends after another fantastic display by Che Adams – who is bringing out the best in Clayton Donaldson.

Donaldson ran himself into the ground impressively and was a handful for the Fulham back four despite only returning from international duty 48 hours ago. Donaldson going off gave us the first glimpse of new boy Lukas Jutkiewicz who fared well in his 25 minute cameo.

Jonathan Grounds was outstanding for the second game in a row – you couldn’t fault a single player on the pitch.

The win was deserved against a Fulham side who hadn’t lost until today. Playing against 10 men for more than 45 minutes may have helped. But all in all, Blues got their just rewards.
