Birmingham City have today announced the signing of Besiktas winger Kerim Frei.

The 23-year-old left winger has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal and is Gianfranco Zola`s fifth signing since joining the club in December and he is a welcome addition to the wide areas with pace being one of the things that Blues have been missing.

Frei, formerly of fellow Championship side Fulham, is the third player to sign for Blues this week after Middlesbrough full back Emilio Nsue was announced on Wednesday evening and Virtus Entella left back Cheick Keita was announced on Thursday evening.

On Thursday afternoon it became apparent that Frei would be signing for the club when his parent side in Turkey announced on the Stock Exchange market that they had agreed to sell the player for 2.5 million euros, although Blues have announced that the fee is undisclosed.

To date, Blues have now spent well over £5 million during the January transfer window which indicates that the club are serious about backing Zola and moving forward.
