Birmingham City have today announced the signing of Besiktas winger Kerim Frei.

The 23-year-old left winger has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal and is Gianfranco Zola`s fifth signing since joining the club in December and he is a welcome addition to the wide areas with pace being one of the things that Blues have been missing.

Frei, formerly of fellow Championship side Fulham, is the third player to sign for Blues this week after Middlesbrough full back Emilio Nsue was announced on Wednesday evening and Virtus Entella left back Cheick Keita was announced on Thursday evening.

On Thursday afternoon it became apparent that Frei would be signing for the club when his parent side in Turkey announced on the Stock Exchange market that they had agreed to sell the player for 2.5 million euros, although Blues have announced that the fee is undisclosed.

To date, Blues have now spent well over £5 million during the January transfer window which indicates that the club are serious about backing Zola and moving forward.

Blues fans, are you happy with the announcement of Kerim Frei? Is he the winger that the club have been missing? Let us know in the comment section down below!

  • Unlike last season we won’t fade away after January ..WOW i am liking this window …a striker and we have a full house. Whether Carlos gets one in this window or not we will have to see ….KRO… .

  • Happy with all the signing. They all add Quality’s we so needed and pace I can see us improving Looks like Zola will be playing 3-5-2 with Wingbacks. KRO

  • There has been some serious pace added to the side. Nsue, Keita and Frei are all pacy players. Add Adams, Maghoma and VSO to that and we should in theory anyway blow away teams with the speed of our attacks

  • You wont see two wingers and two wing backs played at the same time unless we are chasing a game, although this added pace does give us options down the middle as well. We may see Frei play as a number 10 behind or alongside Adams occasionally as our style is likely to be more about using the spaces rather than high balls.
