Birmingham City have today announced their fourth signing of the January transfer window with Cheick Keita joining from Serie B side Virtus Entella.

The 20-year-old left back was a product of the Monaco academy but after failing to break through into their team he made the move to Italy where he became an instant hit with Entella.

Keita can also play in left midfield and it is believed that the deal for the versatile youngster is around 1.7 million euros, although the actual fee is undisclosed.

Keita has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Blues and the club also have the option of a further year, should they wish to extend his stay in B9.

Blues have already signed Lukas Jutkiewicz, Emilio Nsue and Craig Gardner from Burnley, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion respectively, and now Keita is the latest player to join the Gianfranco Zola regime at St.Andrews.

Zola has also admitted that Blues are very interested in Besiktas winger Kerim Frei, Derby County forward Johnny Russell and Palermo midfielder Robin Quaison.

Deals for all three are currently being worked on and we will have developments on all three when we hear more.

  • Zola is certainly addressing the attacking areas of the squad so we should see a bit more action in the final third. I know this lad is highly rated but the Championship is a big step up from Serie B so lets hope he shows this season rather than having to wait until next season. Zola knows what he is doing so I think it will be for an impact now, even if its off the bench.
