Getting that first win under Gianfranco Zola on Saturday was massive for Blues both in terms of getting back on track in the league but also mentally.

Going 10 games without a win is tough for any side and you could sense that the confidence in the camp was slightly low, which is natural.

For anyone, going on a run like that makes you think about what you are doing wrong and sometimes you do begin to question yourself.

However, it was crucial that Blues just kept believing in what they were doing as the win was always going to come at some point.

Having belief and team spirit was key under Gary Rowett and I think that side of the players showed on Saturday that they are all pulling in the right direction under Zola.

It’s crucial that the players have that mindset that they can go into any game and win it. We saw what it meant to them when Lukas Jutkiewicz scored and when the full time whistle went, the passion was there for all to see.

This is an honest group of players and they are adapting to a completely different style of football but that first win was key.

I just really hope that it gives them the confidence boost needed and they work even harder to produce what Zola is asking of them.

The signs are there and the January signings give us options to play different systems, as we did on Saturday, and that showed that we can adapt to playing that way.

Although it’s a tough ask, the play-offs should still be something that the team are aiming for. Who knows, if we start putting together a run of results, then we may have a chance.

What’s key though, is that Blues use the win against Fulham as a platform to build on and that must start with Friday’s tough trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
