‘Common sense’, ‘absolutely not’: These Blues fans weigh in on controversial debate

V.A.R. Whether you like it or not, for the time being, it is here to stay.

Whilst it’s not available in the Championship at the moment, it certainly could have come in handy for City on Saturday. A Maxime Colin cross hit the hand of defender Ben Davies, only for the referee to award a corner instead. Speaking about the incident, Blues boss Pep Clotet said:

“There was a handball in the box, but the ref felt that it was normal to have a hand there and gave us a corner, like if it had touched a leg. Unfortunately for us, that’s how he saw it. We got a corner and my work then is to make sure that we do something with our corners. It’s difficult to say whether it should have been a penalty, he was very close”

Journalist Brian Dick asked on Twitter whether or not Blues fans would want to see it in the Championship any time soon. Maybe they had these views all along, or perhaps its use in the Premier League so far this season has swayed them otherwise, but it’s fair to say that the answer was a resounding ‘no’ from the supporters.
