Clarks Side Takes Advantage Of Tension

Birmingham manager Lee Clark put the reasoning why City did so well at Leicester on Friday was because there was so much tension in the air for the home team and fans.

The home fans and players were having kittens as the clock slowly ticked down to giving them what they hoped would be the victory that ended their eight game winless run.

But in the last minute, with the score at 2-1 Blues were awarded a penalty and Chris Burke stepped up to do the business and earn City a point.

Before that Leicester had taken an early lead through a Curtis Davies own goal and Nikola Zigic drew the sides level on the hour.

Jeff Schlupp put the Foxes back in front and it looked like three points in the back for the home side.

But the pressure got too much for them.

Clark told reporters after the game: ‘We knew there would be a bit of tension around the place because Leicester and Nigel will be thinking they have to win because it (the race for the play-offs) is so tight.

‘This is a big club and there is a certain expectation level here and we knew we had to use that in our favour as part of our armoury.

‘We spoke about it pre-match – making sure we use that bit of tension around the place to our benefit.

‘But that aside, I felt we deserved the late goal. It would have been a travesty really if we had come away from here with nothing.’
