Jermaine Beckford scored a first half winner for Huddersfield Town in a game that manager Lee Clark could have done with winning, being against his old side.

But City lacked the get up and go that you need in this league and it was no surprise when Huddersfield almost found the net early on through James Vaughan could not keep the ball on target from inside the box.

Blues got no better and nearly paid the price once again when Peter Clarke headed wide from close range.

But the Terriers finally got themselves in front when Vaughan broke free of the City defence, played the ball across to Beckford and he could not miss to put the visitors in front..

Just before the half time whistle, Nathan Redmond went close when he curled the ball onto the post with an effort from the edge of the box.

After the break Blues looked to be a little more like a team that could get something from the game and Chris Burke brought a good save out of Alex Smithies early in the second half.

But as the half wore on it became increasingly obvious that the most likely team to score would be the visitors and they nearly produced another goal on several occasions.

Clark had brought on Nikola Zigic at half time to get Blues more bite up front, but he ended up leaving the field with a red card waving at him after he committed a dangerous tackle on Calum Woods.

Birmingham pressed after the red card but Huddersfield were always too strong at the back for anything that Clark’s men had to offer and they easily hung on for all three points.
