Lee Clark has been talking to the press ahead of Blues preparations for this season and is confident that his team can provide a different end of season to the dramatic last day escape his team of loanees provided.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Clark was delighted that Birmingham were able to secure every target he initially set out to sign once his budgets were confirmed.

The former Huddersfield manager spoke about the quality of the league but emphasised the quality now within the ranks at St Andrews. He believes that once the confidence sets in the team will be able to compete much higher up the league, although he did stop short of saying the words ‘play-offs`.

Each player also received praise from the manager for taking lower financial packages to sign for Birmingham, he says they bought into the club, the fans, facilities and ambitions of the club over higher wages elsewhere.

Lee Clark is clearly eager to distance this team from the one that finished the season last time around and rightly so, such a team is hardly going to give the fans a sense of pride and the seats at St Andrews a sense of bums. Blues first time out last season started reasonably and went on to do quite well up to before Christmas, with Clark about to go for a restart on his Blues career it could be reason to be positive as to what his signings may do this time around.

It would seem that players coming to Birmingham, and signing two year deals, certainly cannot be here for the money as it`s simply not a lot compared to other clubs. They could well be a group of decent lads, only time will tell of course.

Birmingham kick off their preseason with a trip to Ireland, whilst there they will take on the popular Cork City July 08 kick off 18.45. Home fans will have to wait until August to see Blues turn out at St Andrews with just one home friendly against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
