Birmingham manager Lee Clark has spoken about the qualities of Lee Grant and Jonathan Grounds to the Birmingham Mail.

Lee Clark has declared “you don`t need to be a rocket scientist to see where we need to improve.” Quite right, when it rained it poured on Birmingham last time out, often losing by several goals all coming at once.

The manager has highlighted that Blues were left short at left back through injury and short term loans. Clark went on to point out Grounds is a player known well by the club staff (connections to Middlesbrough and Norwich) and they are confident he can now make the step up to the Championship.

The management are not naive, they know signing players from lower leagues often displeases fans, it is quite often seen as negative. Well Clark for that very reason stressed they know Grounds ability and put his League 1 days down to ‘losing his way`. The Boss could well be trying to get fans onside to give the player the best atmosphere as to start his Birmingham Career in.

Clark also at some length talked about Hall and how the Swindon Town manager told him the deal was a ‘no brainer`. A similar situation with Grounds could be applied to Grant as he was in the very league Birmingham are seeking to avoid just last season.

With fans already having expressed their unease with Loan signings Clark finished off by pointing out that Birmingham are not entering into loan deals that have any recall options on them. Birmingham fans will not need reminding of the loss of Lingard, Burn and Bartley at crucial times in the season.

It could be said that Lee Clark is eager to communicate to the fans that he feels Birmingham are signing the right players on the right kind of deal, all in order to alleviate the fears that Blues will be limping towards League 1 with players from that very division.
