Clark: Stick to the Game Plan

Lee Clark has praised his players performance levels so far this season. He explained on BirminghamMail.com that in order to get a result at Millwall it was all about getting inside the players heads.

Birmingham had been guilty of letting leads and other important points slip in recent weeks. So much so that the win at Millwall was only their second win of the season.

Clark insisted there wasn’t too much wrong in the first place, though.

‘If, over the course of all the games people look at it, take a real thought process, in every game, apart from Wigan and in terms of attacking play at Wigan, we have been dominant, or had dominant spells.’

Birmingham have been able to impose themselves on games this season. However the frustration has came from the way in which the team have lost control of the game form that point.

“Even Sheffield Wednesday, when we should have been two three up half-time.

“Ipswich, we cruelly got done 20 seconds before the end.

“Norwich, we should have won it 3-2, or been out of sight with a penalty as well at half-time.

“Performance levels have been good, in general.

“That`s why at Millwall I didn`t feel the need to change lots of things, it was just getting inside the players heads, telling them just have no fear lads, it`s a game of football.

“It`s a case of we have done so well to get into a good position, so don`t panic if the opposition get a goal, stick to the game plan.’

Lee Clark will be hoping his theory is not only right, but can continue as Birmingham have a very tough game down at the Valley today.

Birmingham v Charlton kicks off at 15:00, today.
