Birmingham boss Lee Clark had one of those great days where you make a big change to the side and it pays off in big style on Saturday against Derby.

At half-time Blues were a goal down and it could have been more if not for a couple of good saves from Jack Butland.

So at half time the boss brought on Wes Thomas and Nathan Redmond and before the final whistle they had turned into super-subs.

Two goals from Thomas and another from Redmond gave City the points that Clark was looking for before the game to give the hosts a boost up the table.

But Clark was not accepting praise for his decision, instead he chose to praise the two players themselves.

He told reporters after the game: ‘Redmond has waited a long time for that first goal of the season and it was a fantastic strike.’

He added: ‘I have said all along that I have faith in Thomas. There is a lot of pressure on him and he showed me against Derby the form he displayed at Bournemouth, Blackpool and Portsmouth.’
