Birmingham City manager Lee Clark has said the pre-season camp in Ireland has been brilliant. Birmingham underwent extensive fitness training and then a friendly with Cork City winning 3-0.

Here is what Clark told the Official Site:

“The facilities were top class and the lads have worked unbelievably hard, the intensity is very high. They are pushing each other and we`ve had a tremendous week in terms of training while the game (against Cork City) was a good tempo for us.

You`re always hoping that the players will take on board what you`re asking. I`m asking them to play with a high tempo and high intensity both with and without the ball and they`ve done that. The training has set the standard.

What`s also been a positive is that the new players all seem to have integrated into the group really quickly. We look like we`ve got a good team spirit. It`s always going to be about intensity throughout the season because that`s how I want the team to play but obviously we`re starting to get into the more tactical side of the games now.

Players have experienced being back on a big pitch so we`re looking to get the minutes into them now but also we`ve got to start working on the tactical side of the game.”

It seems the first week of pre-season has gone well for the Midlands team who will now look to kick off with a trip to Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.

Birmingham have every reason to be confident after hitting the ground running against a team that was match fit and in amongst their domestic season.
