Clark Not One For Caution

Manager Lee Clark has told the press after the game on the team performance, some absences and what his aims are moving forward.

The Blues boss was pleased that the team managed to keep another clean sheet and said that he was happy with the performance when being played out ‘our pace` meaning a quicker pace.

Clark wasn`t too happy with the passing at times in the game as Blues failed to progress up the field enough.

“But certainly when we played it quickly and passed it in, we caused them one or two problems.”

In terms of finishing the gaffer was clear that it needs to improve. Included in that was his unhappy assessment of bodies in the box once Blues get into the box. The team could have supplied more runners into the box.

“We have got to have more people taking risks in the final third.
I want my players to express themselves in the final third. So let`s push on with these things to work at.”

When it came to the strikers impact, Clark said he was pleased with the threat of them getting in behind. The way Blues actually scored was from Reece Brown playing through Clayton Donaldson.

“Clayton was unlucky just before the goal and then it was a terrific little pass by Reece for him to score from.”

Clark continued when talking about the way in which Blues held the ball.

“Too many square passes at the back and not taking risks (further forward). We have got to cut those out. We have got to concede less goals than we did last season, we have to keep clean sheets to give ourselves a chance.”

Paul Robinson, Lee Novak, Jonathan Spector and Grant Hall all missed the fixture due to small injury concerns. Clark said that all the players were fine and most would be ready for Saturday.

It would seem Clark wants a little more from the team as a whole in terms of getting beyond their position and contributing to more than one period of play in the final third.
