If you thought that the men’s transfer window was exciting, then the women’s transfer window is something else. Big names have been leaving big clubs. Our very own Karen Carney being one of the Birmingham Ladies to leave for the dominating Chelsea side.

But it’s not just Carney that has left. Chelsea Weston has not had her contract renewed by us. This seems strange to me though. Partially because she has been out injured and we have nursed her to full fitness only to just release her. She is a great player despite the injury setbacks so it is an odd thing to do to release her without any financial gain.

The 25 year-old was part of the 2012 FA Cup victory, one of the proudest moments in the Birmingham Ladies history. Weston was crucial in securing this victory against Chelsea and I am sorry to see her go in such a strange fashion.

As a defender, she was never afraid to put a tackle in. Her body was always put on the line for the team and this showed how strong her character must have been. Coming from the midlands herself, she knew the passion needed in order to succeed at a club like Birmingham Ladies and this made her a fans favourite.

Chelsea certainly made herself known to the regular fans that often go to matches, home and away, with many fans taking to Twitter to show their support. She has not made the decision where she will be playing next season, but I’m sure many clubs will be arguing over who will have her.

Despite only getting 1 goal for the Blues’, she is always a menace at set pieces and often gets her head to any ball that comes in her direction. A true warrior that will be sorely missed around the Blues’ dressing room.
