If there was going to be a sign indicating the difference between Blues this season when compared to last, it could well be today’s 1-0 win against Bristol City.

In this entertaining game, both sides missedĀ  a hatful of chances and Blues were thankful for Tomasz Kuszczak’s man of the match performance. The game was there for the taking, though, Gary Rowett deserves credit for making the positive changes which tilted the game in his sides favour.

Goalscorer Che Adams, a 69th minute substitute, once again made an impact from the bench. His deft control and neat finish from close range with nine minutes remaining was the perfect tonic for Blues after the international break.

Getting back to winning ways was the important thing. The performance was a decent one in a game that could have gone either way.

Last season, Blues’ options outside of the first eleven were limited. Today, those options have proved the difference and propelledĀ  back into the top six as a result – a sure sign of progression.

How Blues deal with Jonathan Spector’s forthcoming suspension though remains to be seen.
