Che Adams could be Jutkiewicz’s perfect partner

With Lukas Jutkiewicz and Clayton Donaldson sidelined through injury and Jerome Sinclair offering precious little so far, the attacking burden at Molineux was with Che Adams.

Adams isn’t what you’d describe as a centre forward. He ticks the boxes labelled ‘versatile’ and ‘hard working’, but leaves the ‘prolific’ box unchecked. However, Blues fans wont give a damn how unprolific he is assuming he can put in the level of performance he did on Friday.

Adams didn’t offer much by way of genuine goal scoring threat but his working of the channels and holding up of play was just as vital in the 2-1 success. The former Sheffield United youngster worked tirelessly to give Blues an outlet which was key in their counter attacking set up. Adams’ role was even more important when Blues had their backs to the wall trying to defend the inevitable Wolves onslaught. His slowing down of the play took the sting out of the game and allowed his teammates to regroup. He defended perfectly from the front, led the line well.

The performance of the 20 year-old has certainly given Gianfranco Zola something to ponder as he prepares his team for a tough encounter with Leeds United at St. Andrews on Friday evening. Jutkiewicz has been crying out for a striker partner to work with his strengths. Adams may be that man. I’m done with guessing what system Zola may use – and it’s not yet known whether Jutkiewicz will  be declared fit enough for the game – but with Adams and Jutkiewicz, Blues have a potential partnership in waiting.
