Champions League Winner Considered Birmingham

The Birmingham Mail have revealed that Birmingham City have failed in a bid to sign former Champions League winner Florent Malouda.

Lee Clark has been attempting to find another winger after deciding that what he has isn`t quite enough for the duration of the season. He had originally backed off from the transfer market after Demarai Gray had impressed in pre-season.

It has now emerged that Malouda was approached by Lee Clark but the move has broken down due to wage demands. Birmingham had offered a higher salary than their wage cap, we understand.

The negotiations took place over the international break. Clark hoping to bolster his side after Hatem Ben Arfa turned down a move to St Andrews during the transfer window.

Malouda, previously of Chelsea and Lyon, now is back at his first club after buying a stake in them this summer. He was applying his trade in Turkey for Trabzonspor but after falling out with the coach there his contract was terminated.

The former Chelsea man had a largely positive spell in England, winning the FA cup many times and even picking up a Champions League winners medal. It seems Lee Clark`s search will continue as another signing doesn`t get over the line.

I commend Lee Clark for his audacious attempts to bring in talent that may add real quality to the squad. If you`re going to take a risk, make it a good one! So long as they are players cut and dry above the current squad. Audacious attempts for a potential flop would serve to be more embarrassing than exciting.
