Cash-plus-player enough to secure Sheffield United man

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Birmingham City had had an offer believed to be in the region of £1.2 million rejected for Sheffield United star Che Adams.

Birmingham Mail writer Brian Dick hinted that although Blues were short of the asking price, which is £2 million, there could be a way of the club meeting that valuation and that would be by offering a cash sum, plus a player that takes us to the overall price.

However, having spoken to a Vital Birmingham source who is very reliable, the identity of the player or players that Blues would be willing to offer to the Blades is yet unknown.

Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some of the players who I think would be worth putting into the deal, whether that is as a permanent switch, or just a loan move.

First up, if Blues had to offer a player who would move the other way on a full time basis, I would personally recommend Andrew Shinnie. Although he has shown glimpses of being a good player, I just don’t think he will be able to get past Diego Fabbrini this season, which means he would be near surplus requirements.

If Adams came into the club, he could, if needed, occupy that number 10 role, as well as playing out wide and up front, so Shinnie would potentially slip even further down the pecking order.

Having seen what the Scotsman is like round his team mates up close and personal, it is clear to see that he does love it at Blues, but with first team football in short supply, surely there would be nothing stopping him leaving the club.

Moving on, if Blues were to send a player or two on loan to United, I can think of two people who would really benefit from moving away from the club for six months, or even the season, in order to pick up some valuable first team game time.

The two players who I would suggest to move to Sheffield United on loan would be Reece Brown and Nicolai Brock-Madsen.

Last week, Gary Rowett suggested that Brown might benefit from going out to a high end League One club on loan in order to boost his potential so this move would be a fantastic one for him as he could potentially fill the boots that Adams would be leaving behind.

The same goes for Brock-Madsen. Personally, I don’t think he is ready for Championship football just yet, and I am unsure whether he ever will be, but maybe if he spent some time out on loan in a lower division, it would benefit Blues as well as the Dane himself.

Blues fans, what would you rather happen? Let Andrew Shinnie leave along with £1.5 million or let Reece Brown and Nicolai Brock-Madsen join on season long loans as well as the £1.5 million? Let us know down in the comment section!
