Carr Free From Blame

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish was in no mood for blaming defender Stephen Carr after his mistake led to a late winner for Fulham at Craven Cottage.

With the score locked at 1-1 very late in the game, Carr bundled over Zoltan Gera on the edge of the penalty area and Bobby Zamora curled in the free kick which left Blues with nothing from the game.

And although boss McLeish admitted he was disappointed to lose the game in such a way, there was no way he would single out Carr for criticism.

He told Sky Sports: ‘It’s terrible to lose the way we did in the last minute with a free kick on the edge of your box – you’re asking for trouble committing free-kicks there.
‘Stevie Carr was fully committed and Stevie’s cringing in the dressing room – he’s upset, he’s very disappointed.
‘But you know he doesn’t make many mistakes over the course of a whole season and I’m sure Stevie Carr will want to bounce back next week.’
