Ex Newcastle and Tottenham defender Stephen Carr has come out of retirement to sign a month long contract with Birmingham City.

The 32 year old left Newcastle last summer and announced that he was to retire in December.

But after impressing the powers that be at St Andrews he has now returned to the game and joined Blues on an initial one month deal and will be available for Tuesday`s game with Crystal Palace.

Alex McLeish said: “We`ve been looking to strengthen the full back position and are pleased to bring in Stephen as he brings with him great experience.

“He has not played for a while, but there`s no doubt he is a quality player who can definitely bring something to the side once he is fully match fit.”
