Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has set his sights on Blues’ Welsh winger David Cotterill, according to reports on walesonline.co.uk.

The 27 year-old was statistically one of the most productive players in the Championship last term, scoring nine with eight assists, creating more than 100 goalscoring opportunities for his team mates. And a move to the Welsh capital would be a return home for Cotterill who was born just three miles away in Ely.

Blues manager Gary Rowett will be keen to hold on to the former Doncaster Rovers man and this week went on record to state his excitement at working with him in the forthcoming season.

But a move to Cardiff, where he would become their first significant signing, may tempt Cotterill who formerly played for their rivals Swansea City.

Cotterill made 44 appearances in his first season for Blues, another reason why Rowett rates him so highly. He has been capped 22 times for Wales.

With the club fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of Clayton Donaldson and Dimmy Gray, interest in Cotterill is just another distraction.
