Birmingham City suffered a heartbreaking defeat against arch-rivals Aston Villa on Sunday, losing 4-2 at Villa Park.
The Blues took the lead in the game but fell behind to two quickfire goals ahead of the half-time interval and were unable to fight back after the break, with defeat condemning Garry Monk’s side to three games without a win.
Despite the defeat, there were some positives from the display and the stats still stand in Birmingham’s favour as Monk’s side have lost just two of their last 14 matches – surging up the standings and lying on the brink of entering the promotion frame.
A defeat against Villa could be damaging though and it continued the recent trend from second city derbies where recent history stands against Birmingham – but Blues icon Mikael Forssell believes that trend could end in the reserve fixture later this season.
Forssell took to Twitter to make his statement and was met with plenty of support from Blues fans. We have gathered some of the reactions below.
If i clean ur boots can u come back?😂💙#feelthefors

We deserved better today – Villa had the rub of the green and should never have had that penalty – we’ll stuff them in March ..
