Bruno hit by FA knockout blow

Emile Heskey has been charged by the FA of ‘improper conduct’ following his red card in Saturday’s game with Arsenal.

After picking up two disputable bookings from referee Mike Riley, Heskey proceeded to argue with, and make gestures at, the official.

After leaving the pitch, Heskey then took up his case with fourth official Phil Dowd, until he was forced down the tunnel by Steve Bruce – presumably mindful of the fact that such a charge could occur.

Heskey is already ruled out of Tuesday’s FA Cup fourth round replay with Reading at St. Andrews due to his suspension for the original offence, but will almost certainly serve a further ban if found guilty of the charge – as is likely.

An FA statement read: ‘The charge relates to Heskey’s conduct after being sent off against Arsenal on February 4.

‘It is alleged that Heskey failed to leave the field of play promptly and approached the match officials in an aggressive manner using abusive language.

‘In bringing the charge the FA compliance department relied upon evidence provided by match referee Mike Riley.

‘Heskey has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge and the case will be heard by a disciplinary commission on Friday.’
