Steve Bruce has admitted he is after more signings in the transfer window following the capture of Chris Sutton.

Bruce believes he needs to bolster the squad after a succession of injuries, and is scouring the market in a bid to bring in new players.

‘I’d like two or three more players in if I could,’ said Bruce.

‘I keep reading about Newcastle United and the problems they’ve got. We’ve faced those sort of problems for six months!

‘Our squad hasn’t been able to cope. I thought it might – but it hasn’t. It has taught us all a harsh lesson of how tough and unrelenting the Premier League is.

‘I’ve said repeatedly that I’m not just going to bring in people who won’t improve us and usually the big clubs, the better clubs, don’t let their best players go.

‘We always know there might be a row, a fight or a fall-out or someone wants to generate a bit of money. If that’s the case, we’ll have a look.’

The injury crisis at Blues is well documented – at least to the fans, who seemingly have had to put up with an injury crisis every season for the past several years – and the signings of at least a new striker and centre-back are essential, possibly along with that of a new left-back.

Several possible targets that have appeared in the media have left to join other clubs – the latest being Yoann Lachor who is on the verge of a move to Newcastle, and Matty Fryatt who has joined Leicester – but other potential signings mentioned include wantaway West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw, Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock, and Polish striker Grzegorz Piechna.
