Bruce Plays Down Forssell Concerns

Rumours were awoken about Mikael Forssell’s fitness after his exclusion from the Burton Albion squad, but Bruce insists there is nothing to worry about.

Forssell has headed out with the squad to Blues’ training camp in Spain and it is expected he will figure in our friendlies.

The ommitance from the Burton squad was simply risk management after the striker spent last season recovering from a serious knee injury and was only picked infrequently. Bruce has no intention of rushing him back in friendlies or pushing him too hard in training, preferring instead a steady return to fitness.

‘Mikael is better now than he has ever been in the last 14 months, believe you me. We’ve all delighted about that. He looks in really good nick and his knee is fine.

‘Hoever, we just thought that he was better off doing some individual physical stuff on the morning of the game. He will feature in Spain and there’s no problem. He’s perfectly well.’
