Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is looking for his side to put in a stunning performance against his old side Birmingham tomorrow as he looks for revenge for the defeat at St Andrews earlier in the season.

The Black Cats arrived at Birmingham in October flying high after beating Liverpool at home the previous week. But after expecting something special from his side they flopped and ended up losing 2-1.

And the ex-Blues boss was not only annoyed by the defeat, he was angry about his side`s performance.

“It was a real low point.” Bruce told the Chronicle.

“We were very poor that day and it sticks in my mind as at the time we had a real opportunity to push on.

“We had beaten Liverpool 1-0 the previous week and were on a high.

“We knew a good result against Birmingham would help us push on, but it was not to be and we had only ourselves to blame for that.

“At the time Birmingham City were not going too well – as you might have expected with a newly-promoted team – but we just did not turn up as a team.

“The thing which really hurt me was that we were nowhere near the sort of display we were capable of.

“I was going back to my former club with a team I knew could be a force in this division.

“We had made a great start. We were looking to build.

“I felt totally let down by the end of the day and it has to go down as one of the disappointments of the season for me.”
