Steve Bruce has spoken following our 2-0 defeat away at Cardiff.

‘The simple fact is we played poorly, particularly in the first half and we deserved what we got, which was nothing.

‘We didn’t really get started.

‘In the first half there were too many individuals who weren’t good enough.

‘We can analyse it as much as we want but too many people didn’t produce what they are capable of.

‘I thought there was only three or four of our players who played well and you need at least seven or eight.

‘In the second half we’ve come out and made a couple of changes that’s made us lively and we had a couple of really good chances.

‘DJ Campbell and Cameron Jerome both had one on ones with the keeper but unfortunately they’ve missed them.

‘Away from home you couldn’t wish for two better chances to get you back into the game because you’re not going to get better ones.

‘Their keeper has also produced a hell of a save from McSheffrey’s header and another one from his free kick.

‘If ever we needed a wake up call this was it.

‘Bryan Robson told me all about this place and how difficult it would be.

‘There are not many teams who are going to go there and get a result.

‘But I’m not going to paper over the cracks of what I’ve seen today and we have to make sure we improve.

‘It’s been a learning curve over the last four or five weeks.

‘We’re now the big boys in this division and everybody wants to kick our backsides.

‘We have to make sure we bounce back as quickly as possible, but unfortunately we’ve got to wait a couple of weeks for our next game.’
