Steve Bruce has praised the squad for picking up 3 points against Palace and not letting the ongoing arguements between the board and fans effect their game.

‘It was a strange week, now we have to forget all that nonsense. The most important thing is the team. And their reaction to what has gone on pays huge tribute to them.

‘I thought they were excellent. It’s been a difficult couple of weeks for whatever reasons but they gave a thoroughly good performance, especially in the first half, and were worthy winners.

‘Now the next test is at home to Sunderland tomorrow and I want everyone to get behind the team, rally round and enjoy it. We’ve got eight games now over the next 30 days and I think I’ve got a squad who can handle that.

‘In the first half, Jerome was absolutely awesome, he is a young lad who will only get better. That goes for Gary McSheffrey and Nicklas Bendtner too. The club is in good hands with some good young players. They go up and down a little bit but this was probably Cameron’s best performance.

‘I have been criticised that my teams don’t play with flair, but we have that with our young forwards.

‘I thought at the back Jaidi and Taylor were tremendous along with the young goalkeeper. Anyone who knows my teams, knows the one thing I demand is hard work. That’s what I expect and demand. But there is quality there at the top end of the pitch and in defence.’
