Arsene Wenger has stated that the FA should go all out to hire an Englishman as Sam Allardyce’s successor in the Wembley hotseat.

Former Blues midfielder Robbie Savage commented in his Daily Mirror column today that the rise of foreign managers tend to block the pathway for British managers.

There is a belief in English football that foreign managers are making it impossible for their British counterparts to take the baton of management at the top levels in this country.

In the Premier League, only seven clubs are managed by British managers. From the seven, only Sean Dyche, Eddie Howe, Alan Pardew and Mike Phelan are English.

That foreign contingent now stretches to the Championship to a lesser extent with eight clubs under the stewardship of foreign managers.

At Birmingham City, however, British managers win. Blues have never had a manager who was born further than Scotland.

Despite Gianfranco Zola, Jose Dominguez and  others being interviewed for the vacant managerial posts at various times, Blues have always handed the reigns to a British born manager.

Now I’m not trying to sound like a UKIP advert, I’m all for giving foreign managers a chance if they are the right person for the job. But Blues’ British history is something to be proud of.
