Midfielder Brian Howard has been talking to the Birmingham Mail about his cup experience. Howard has appeared in the FA Cup 24 times in his career, scoring 3 times.

Former Glory

“After we beat Chelsea in the quarter-final we had a tough match against Ipswich at home two days later. They were riding high but we beat them 4-1. That`s what winning these games can do, it breeds confidence and success in the team.”

The cup gives you an opportunity to break away from the league; it is a mini fresh start for players, getting a good result can really help managers raise moral and confidence within the team.

“The Swansea game on Saturday will be a great chance for the players, especially the younger lads, to play with a bit of freedom and get their names out there. It gives you a break from the pressures of the Championship and, if you can get through, will get some money into the club and help everybody.”

There is No Place Like Home

Howard also spoke about his first game for Blues since signing for free. The 31 year old recently returned to English football after a nightmare spell at CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria.

“I thought I did okay considering it was my first game in a while,”

“I was very disappointed that we lost because it`s all about winning, but we were in on Sunday and looked at the video and have discussed it over the last few days and actually we didn`t play too bad. The pass completion was high and we got lots of crosses in but Yeovil just dug in.” – The midfield display was good is what I think he may be getting at here, and well I would be inclined to say Blues did give a good account of themselves in that respect.

I would expect a little more from them in terms of controlling the game, and protecting the back for in possession. But the new potential for Olly Lee, Reece Brown and Howard to pick up for Blues is a reasonable prospect.
