The rumour mill has been in overdrive with talk linking Watford`s Diego Fabbrini with a return to Birmingham City.
The Italian made five appearances during a brief loan spell at St. Andrew`s last season and became an instant hit with the fans.
Gary Rowett has been working on a deal to bring him back on a loan basis. Watford were reluctant to agree a deal before their new manager Quique Flores had made a decision on the play-maker. However, it appears that Flores has given Blues, and other interested parties, the green light to strike a deal.
A source close to Birmingham City said – “Fabbrini is a wanted man and Rowett has never given up hope of signing him despite it looking unlikely a few weeks ago. Watford have now decided he can go if the right offer comes in, or possibly on loan”.
It is understood that Rowett would love to make him a permanent capture and has explored the financial possibility, but a loan deal remains the most likely outcome if he is to return to Blues. Other clubs have also made enquiries.
The 24 year-old was introduced as a 63rd minute substitute in the Hornets` 4-1 win over SC Verl in Germany, part of their pre-season training camp.
