David Cotterill may be heading towards the exit door at St. Andrews.

The Welsh winger, who spent part of last season on loan at Bristol City, is the subject of interest from various Championship and League One clubs.

The 29-year-old was loaned out on January transfer deadline day after falling out of favour with former manager Gianfranco Zola.

Cotterill’s contract expires at the end of this month and it is thought that at least three or four clubs have already contacted the players representatives.

Birmingham City have not yet made a decision on the one year option available on his current deal.

Blues manager Harry Redknapp would like to run the rule over members of the first team squad that he didn’t get to work with last season but will not stand in Cotterill’s way if he fancies pastures new.

  • Maybe its me but I’d forgotten all about him !!
Just the one problem, a good player when HE wanted to be.

  • Trevor, you have summed up Cotterill perfectly.Harry might see something in that and may wish to keep him. Personally,I would prefer him to come on as sub than either Stewart or Frei.

  • Just a shame we couldn’t have got a fee for him. I’d have been happy to sell him last summer but definitely in the ‘deadwood’ category of current players. Get rid and move on

  • On his day he had an impact for us and got us a few vital points when we didn’t deserve them, but since his exploits with the Welsh squad he hasn’t turned up at all. He could even be forgiven for backing out of challenges if he got us a goal or an assist but for some time now he hasn’t been at his best. I think the club are stepping things up with quality of players now so I don’t see him staying. I wish him well though because he did play a part in our survival and stuttering progression.

  • When Gardner was taking poor set pieces after poor set pieces we were rueing Zolas decision to send Cotts to a relegation rival. While not everyone’s cup of tea I think he’s a useful squad player. We need someone who can take a good free kick/corner. There are rumblings of Cotts, Gleeson, Stewart and Frei going leaving us with very few set piece options. I hope HR has someone in mind.

  • Cotterill can do it if he wants to. Last season against Blackburn he gave a great performance both as an attacker and defender.Almost a masterclass.Harry might just take to him and we could see a rejuvenated player.
