Birmingham City are the champions of the Club Legends Cup after getting their hands on the Cure Leukaemia trophy in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The side skippered by Darren Purse won two penalty shootouts on the night, one coming against Coventry City in the semi-final and then again in the final. Blues supporter Richard Flanagan scored the winning penalty for the Blues.

Birmingham sunk West Brom in the final, managed by a mother – daughter partnership. The pair had donated to the charity for the privilege after the team were without a manager for the night.

There were many legends involved on the night including Steve Bull, Lee Hendrie, Bob Taylor and Matt Murray. 3000 fans turned out in the end in support of the event.

Purse speaking with the Birmingham Mail praised the atmosphere and the success could lead to a future event.

“he supporters have come along and had a sing song to add to the atmosphere.
“It would be great if this could do this again to raise money for Cure Leukaemia”
