Blues: thoughts on the new season

So here we are, back in the Premiership and only three days since we put up one hell of a show against the second best side in the Premiership.

Firstly, I would like to say that I was amazingly proud of the players after the Chelsea game, and as I departed Gate 1, Stamford Bridge, I discussed with my Dad, and a few other ‘noses; ‘Why didn’t we play like that last time round?’…

We came up with numerous suggestions as to why that was; more quality, more effort, more bottle etc… But I think that the main reason we were so good against Chelsea on Sunday was the simple fact that Steve Bruce wanted to beat Chelsea, just like he wanted to beat Newcastle last season.

Moving on from Sunday’s game, we welcome Sunderland, The Mackems, to St.Andrews tonight, and with them comes a brilliant support, that will challenge the Birmingham faithful to really sing, and get behind the boys.

Sunderland, as most of you know beat Spurs at the weekend on their return to the Premier League, scoring in the last minute, which will of course give them much confidence coming into the game against us.

From my point of view I feel that Sunderland’s squad is decent; it doesn’t possess the quality that many of their fans maybe expected it would during the summer, but Roy Keane has seemingly made Sunderland a very organized, and hard-working outfit.

That moves me on to my own side, the side this article is all about, Birmingham City.

During the summer as many of you know, Brucey has arranged a side that is more than capable of stepping up to the front, and staying in the Premiership.

My confidence was assured on Sunday when we challenged Chelsea and gave them as tough a game as they have had during that 64-game home unbeaten run.

Olivier Kapo, Mikael Forssell, Liam Ridgewell, Johan Djourou, Fabrice Muamba; all players which will be vital to us this year; all with great quality, fighting spirit and courage.

So, how will the game go? I hear you shout.

Well firstly, the atmosphere is going to play an absolutely massive role in the outcome of the game, I know that if the Bluenoses can get behind the lads, and make St. Andrew’s the intimating fortress it once was, Sunderland could be in trouble.

But if the Mackems get behind their team, and our crowd start grumbling, nerves will settle in. Poor passing, rash tackles, and ultimately a bad night for Blues

I, however, doubt this will happen and I have confidence that I, along with every Blues fan in the ground will sing till their lungs hurt, and the boys on the pitch will do the business.

I predict 2-1 Blues.
