The Birmingham Mail are today reporting that the club are supposedly interested in former Nottingham Forest loanee Nelson Oliveira, one of several targets that is being looked at by manager Gary Rowett.

Although his name may not be as familiar as some of the others who have been linked with us, for example James Wilson from Manchester United, he certainly has the pedigree to be a top top striker and at the age of 24, there is still plenty of time to manipulate him into a goal scoring machine.

His potential has no limits and I think under the right management and with the correct guidance, Oliveira could have the same sort of impact on Blues that Jon Toral had last season.

Despite the temper that he has in his locker, something which almost got him sent off against Birmingham City last season, the Benfica forward performed well whilst on loan in the Championship last season scoring nine goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.

The striker, formerly of Premier League side Swansea City and French first division side Rennes, is rumoured to be looking for a move away from his parent club in Portugal and with Blues in the market for a powerful striker, this move seems very logical and if it does materialise then I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a main factor in the club potentially reaching the play-offs next season.

Whilst he was on loan at Forest, it is fair to say that he wasn’t surrounded by the most talented players and he wasn’t under the right management in my eyes, so if he did move to the club, I could see a strong relationship being built up between Oliveira and Rowett and if they can both start singing from the same hymn sheet then we would certainly be in business.

The Portugal international has a standard goal average with the clubs he has been at, with Benfica and Pacos Ferreira being the only clubs that he has failed to find the back of the net for.

For me, I believe that should Oliveira come to Blues, he has the potential to be a fantastic signing, but, first things first, we need to see what other targets Rowett has in mind before we jump the gun and go all guns blazing trying to sign the 24-year-old.

Blues fans, what do you make of the link to Nelson Oliveira? Would he be a good signing for the club? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
