Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett is keeping tabs on Charlton Athletic central defender Patrick Bauer, Vital Blues understands.

The 23 year-old German signed for The Addicks for £1.2m from Portuguese side Maritimo back in June 2015 and has clocked up 27 appearances at The Valley. He has recently caught the eye of the Blues boss after forcing his way back into the first team fold and has been part of a defence that has conceded just 13 goals this season despite his clubs lowly 15th position in League One.

Bauer has more than two years remaining on his Charlton contract which means a fee would be involved if any potential move was to happen. No figures have been discussed and no formal approach has been made by Blues at the time of writing.

However, representatives of the club watched him during Charlton`s away draw at Port Vale on Tuesday evening and have previously attended The Valley.

Bauer came through the academy at VFB Stuttgart before his move to Portugal. He has been capped by Germany at U17, U18 and U20 level.
