When you ask a Birmingham City fan who they would have up front in their team, 95% of them would most likely say Clayton Donaldson, and fair enough, they would have been right a few weeks ago.

However, since the 32-year-old got injured, on loan forward Lukas Jutkiewicz has certainly made himself known to Blues fans and management which now means that it is unlikely that Donaldson will walk straight back into the starting line up.

Last year, Blues were so reliant on Donaldson that the moment he was fit, he would be straight back in the starting XI.

That isn’t the case this year with both Jutkiewicz and young striker Jack Storer being able to lead the front line, the latter better so, but that poses the question, is that a bad thing?

With James Vaughan unable to find the target and Nicolai Brock-Madsen having very little experience at this level, Blues needed Donaldson fit for every game and although they won a considerable amount of games when he did get injured over the Christmas period last year, we just didn’t look the same.

This season however, with the likes of Jutkiewicz in the side, who has found a little bit of form since he has come in, Gary Rowett isn’t completely dependable of the Jamaican international and I think that will do him well in the long run.

Blues have an option to buy the Burnley striker in January, one I imagine they will take up based on his performances so far in a royal blue shirt, so it makes sense to try and utilise the pair of them.

As most people will know, to get to where we want to be, we need strikers who can win us games and both Donaldson and Jutkiewicz can do just that, but my hunch is that there will be another striker brought in in January to give those two even more competition, unless youngster Alex Jones, who is currently with Port Vale, gets given a chance.

Blues fans, do you agree that Clayton Donaldson will find it hard to knock Lukas Jutkiewicz out of the team? Let us know in the comment section down below!
