Blues striker James Vaughan is due to hold talks with the club next week regarding his future, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The 27 year-old Brumme is reportedly a target for Rangers but when asked about the speculation, Gary Rowett seemed bemused before saying that Vaughan ‘is very much a Birmingham City player`.

If reports are correct, Vaughan could seek assurances on his first team role before deciding whether to push for a move to Ibrox.

After 16 appearances, the majority from the substitute`s bench, Vaughan has failed to find the net in a Blues shirt. A permanent deal was agreed with his parent club Huddersfield midway through his loan spell last season. But Vaughan has found it difficult to consistently break his way into the starting eleven.

However as a result of injuries, it is understood that Vaughan hasn`t had a full pre-season under his belt for four years. There is a belief inside St. Andrew`s that, given a full comprehensive summer training schedule, Vaughan could be an effective player next season.
