Premier League side Newcastle United are interested in signing Birmingham City goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, according to TalkSPORT.

Championship rivals Nottingham Forest are also said to be in the race for the 35-year-old who lost his starting spot following the arrival of David Stockdale earlier in the summer.

Kuszczak was a regular starter in the Blues goal in the last two seasons, making 79 Championship appearances after joining from Wolves.

However, his game time now looks to be limited with Harry Redknapp strengthening in between the sticks and the former Manchester United man is now playing second fiddle to Stockdale.

The departure of Adam Legzdins means that Blues are unlikely to be willing to let Kuszczak leave the club with the competition between him and Stockdale key for the side.

  • So he goes to another club as number 2. The only motivation for this to happen is money and not ambition. It also leaves us looking for another number 2 goalkeeper so I don’t see it happening unless we get a decent fee.

  • Similar situation as it was with Maik Taylor. Better to be a Premier number two than a Championship reserve. Also of course Prem.wages etc.Kuszack is a decent keeper and I would have been happy if he had started as number one this season saving £25k per week on Stockdale. That money could have been spent on a top drawer striker. Interesting to see that we are now giving very long contracts to new players who are joining us-far cry from recent troubled times. (Le Hane, these new contracts and length echo my recent ownership findings).

  • You need at least two top class keepers. Having just sold Legsdinz Koosh us our only backup keeper. We can’t afford to let him go.

  • Contracts are not worth the paper they are written on,if a player wants away they will find a way to make it happen (Robbie Savage ) as an instance.
It would be Crazy to sell .Kuszack ,any team needs two quality keepers,.
Ohio,I now where you are coming from and I now share your concerns,Despite that I will try and stay as positive as I can,If we win at Burton we can look back and say not a bad start to the season, anything less and it will be worrying.
