Birmingham City look set to miss out on former loan star Diego Fabbrini after reports started to emerge that the Italian international is on his way to Middlebrough.

Should these reports be true it will be the third time that manager Gary Rowett and his staff will have been let down in deals, following the collapses of both the Rob Kiernan deal and the Robert Tesche deal.

It was believed that the Blues had first refusal on the former loanee but it now looks like he will be on his way to promotion chasing Boro.

The news will surely be a huge set back for Rowett after he confirmed to the official club website that the club were still working very hard on a deal to bring Fabbrini back to the club and that they were hopeful that they could striker a deal with Premier League side Watford.

However, it is understood that the former fan favourite will be attending Middlesbrough’s match against Doncaster Rovers tomorrow ahead of signing a season long loan deal and barring any last minute hiccups or snags, Fabbrini should be a Boro player by Monday.

Rowett will however be hoping that there are some snags in the deal because that would mean that the club would be able to swoop in ahead of Boro and bring him back to Birmingham.

Blues fans, what do you make of this news? How big a blow will this be to Rowett’s plans do you think? Let us know in the comment section down below!!
