Blues Roar Past Tigers

That was, without doubt, the best result of the season so far. Beating a Hull City side, who I thought looked pretty good on the night, was a huge three points and a pick-me-up after the horrible QPR defeat.

Blues were by far the better side in the first half, but did ride their luck after Hull hit the woodwork twice. But for style and substance, the first 45 minutes was a pleasure to watch, topped off by Jon Toral`s goal which. Although it took a deflection, was deserved after an exquisite touch and turn.

The second half was a different story. Fresh from a Steve Bruce rollicking, the Tigers started to dominate proceedings. Thankfully, the back four were superb, particularly Jonathan Grounds who produced arguably his best performance in a Blues shirt.

It was a big team effort led by Jacques Maghoma and Clayton Donaldson. The pair must have ran the equivalent of a marathon between them, Donaldson to hold up play and harass defenders and Maghoma in assisting with defensive duties.

Hull played well, make no mistake about it, which makes the three points even more special. Gary Rowett played his hand correctly, his tactics were spot on. For a top side, Hull don`t score many goals and after Blues opened the scoring as early as the 14th minute, they were always going to find it difficult to break us down.

To a man, Blues were right at it. Rowett is right when he says it was one of the best performances of his tenure. Fantastic result. Now we can sit back and enjoy the weekend.
