Blues Now In Search Of Striker

Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish is hopeful of bringing in a new striker before the transfer window closes.

There have been reports that the boss is ready to shell out £10 million for Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, Kris Boyd is also a target.

Carson Yeung is set for talks with McLeish when he flies in for the game against Chelsea.

‘I am trying my best (to sign a new striker),’ McLeish told the Daily Express.

‘I have asked the board for one or two players and I’m waiting on the go-ahead.

‘I’ve told them who I want and it’s up to them now. I’m not going to say any names, but we’ve certainly targeted one or two pretty decent centre-forwards.

‘We need to help the rest of the squad by bringing in another striker.

‘I’ve always said that I didn’t need to spend £20m or £40m. But we need to spend some money.

‘We need a striker. We were running on empty at the weekend, when a 17-year-old (Jake Jervis) came on late in the game. It’s great for the kid but we need to bolster the squad.’
