Birmingham have decided that is not in their best interest to extend the loan spell of Nigel Quashie and he will now return to West Ham United.

Quashie originally came to St Andrews on a month long loan deal in October and Blues extended that stay to the maximum 93 day period.

It was first thought that Birmingham would take the player on a season long loan or even a permanent move but that has been revealed not to be the case today.

January arrivals of midfielders Lee Bowyer, Keith Fahey, Hameur Bouazza and Scott Sinclair kept Quashie out of the side for what would have been his last game against Cardiff on Saturday.

He made 11 appearances for Blues.
