With the January transfer window fast approaching, Birmingham City have already seen themselves linked with multiple names from League One like Josh Morris of Scunthorpe United (as seen in the Birmingham Mail on Monday afternoon).

However, it is all well and good the club being linked with exciting talents from the lower divisions but in my opinion, for the club to be able to keep moving forward, we need to be signing players who have been there and done it before.

Blues manager Gary Rowett has always said since he has joined the club that he is looking for a certain type of player to be able to take his squad forward and barring the odd transfer, most notably Lloyd Dyer and Greg Halford, whoever he has brought in has performed very well.

For example, if you look at both Ryan Shotton and Lukas Jutkiewicz. Both of them have experience of playing in the Championship and Premier League before and for me Blues really need players with those sorts of attributes if we want to stay in and around the top six of the Championship.

Now I am not saying we need to go and sign somebody like Joey Barton because somebody with that sort of attitude and behaviour would more than likely mess up the harmony of the current group but there are players out there who have experience that Blues need to get hold of.

One player who I believe we will sign despite interest from other clubs is current loanee Jutkiewicz because he has openly made it clear that he would like to stay at St.Andrews and if he is ready to admit that then Blues need to act fast.

If the Burnley striker does turn his loan move into a permanent one then Rowett will probably only be looking to add a maximum of two or three more players to his squad in the winter transfer window.

Should that be the case then I think again he will look to add quality over quantity, something former Blues boss Lee Clark didn’t do.

Although it may be hard to find the right sort of player that Rowett is looking for, he hasn’t failed to bring in at least one stand out player in each transfer window so far and I think with the new investment, we will see a player who can really change the face of Birmingham City.

Blues fans, do you agree that the club need to be signing players who are of a higher quality now? For example, players who are on the fringes of Premier League squads? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
