Blues must strike while iron is hot and capitalise on offers from abroad – Opinion

The transfer window never truly goes away does it?

Despite closing last Thursday for Championship and Premier League clubs, the summer spending spree is still going on for a number of clubs around the world, as well as further down the football leagues in England.

As a result, Birmingham City are still vulnerable from clubs coming and taking their players, and that looks to be the case for one man in particular. A report from BirminghamLive today states that German side Hamburg and Portuguese team Braga are interested in bringing in Blues’ Kerim Mrabti.

Mrabti hasn’t been in B9 very long, having only signed for the club back in January, he is only here officially on an 18-month deal. Although the club does have the option of extending it for another year, they needn’t bother going through all that.

Personally, I think it might be best if the club moves away from the Swede. The writing is on the wall that his time is up with the likes of Fran Villalba, Alvaro Gimenez & Dan Crowley all having signed for the club this summer.

When you add in Lukas Jutkiewicz’s new contract as well, and opportunities are going to be limited for the Swede. Even more limited now as there aren’t even any cup games left for him to fall back on, thanks to the defeat to Portsmouth last week.

If he had produced better numbers, then I might be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and let him stay a little bit longer, however in his 13 appearances for the Blues so far he’s only managed to find the net once and provide one additional assist. His contract is also somewhat beneficial to the club when deciding what to do, seeing as it runs out next summer, that incentivises the club to get the deal done now when clubs actually want him. If he stays sitting on the bench all season, then chances are people aren’t going to want to come back in for him next year.

He is surplus to requirements and as a result, he needs to be sold so that funds can be generated for areas of the squad that actually need reinforcements, starting with the defence.
