Blues are in pole position to sign Manchester United striker James Wilson on loan, Vital Birmingham understands.

The Manchester Evening News are have reported that United manager Jose Mourinho is keen to trim his squad and Wilson has been earmarked for another loan move with Blues at the front of the queue.

The 20 year-old spent last season on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion but has been trying to force his way into the first team picture at Old Trafford this summer. But with new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic joining Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in Manchester, competition for places is fierce and, as a result, Wilson is finding himself surplus to immediate requirements.

Other clubs are vying for Wilson’s services and there may be twists in the road yet, but Blues manager Gary Rowett is hoping to complete the deal for Wilson and Che Adams in the coming days.
