Having been pipped to the post to a Champions League spot last season on the last day, the Blues were optimistic this time around that Lady Luck was on their side.

Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the case. As the official Birmingham City site says, the Blues Women have only picked up 3 points from their opening six games and are still yet to to win a match.

However, with the new interest surged into the sport after the successful lioness campaign in the Women’s World Cup, Birmingham City are hoping that the fans will turn out to support them for the rest of the season.

Many of England’s heroes play for Manchester City such as Captain Steph Houghton, Jill Scott, Lucy Bronze and Toni Duggan. They will always be title contenders so it will be hard for the Blues’ to realistically get much from the game.

But Karen Carney definitely showed what she was made of in the recent world cup, and with her attitude and experience, she will be wanting one over on her England team mates.

Jo Potter also played a role in the 3rd place play-off game which brought her many plaudits. Jade Moore was a starlet in midfield also, so they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Despite being a young team, the Blues’ can be positive about the rest of the season as they do have the quality to do well, it’s just 1-0 defeats that have cost them so far.

The game is to be held at the Academy Stadium this Sunday is the usual time of 2pm kick off.

As the official site says, ‘…tickets can be bought online from tickets.mcfc.co.uk’
