Birmingham ran out comfortable winners against Barnet last night as their second half display yielded four goals.

But in the first half it took a bit of time for the home side to get going and it wasn’t until Barnet had taken the lead that Blues woke up.

Manager Lee Clark ws in charge of the side for his first competitive gane and he was confident enough to give debuts to Ambrose, Lovenkrands, Hayden Mullins, Ravel Morrison and goalkeeper David Lucas, who admittedly got his place because Jack Butland was on international duty.

It was after 31 minutes that the deadlock was broken and it was not really a surprise that the first goal went to Barnet who were doing well against their higher place opponents.

Brown sent over a cross and Nurse headed home from beyond the far post with the keeper left feeling that he should have done better.

But Blues were level ahead of the half time break, King went into the penalty area from the left and was brought down by Kamdjo, the ref was right on the spot and gave a penalty straight away.

King took the kick and sent the keeper the wrong way by rolling the ball into the right corner.

Barnet could have regained their lead in first-half stoppage time as Holmes beat Lucas with a chip which he saw come back off the woodwork.

After the break it took City just four minutes to take the lead, Ambrose sent over a corner which ended up at the feet of Caldwell who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Ambrose got one for himself six minutes later when he curled the ball around the despairing dive of the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net for 3-1.

Then in injury time, Blues found the time to net another couple of times with Lovenkrands going through to hit the net on his debut and then Elliott did the same with a shot from 18 yards that took a bit of a deflection.

All in all it was a good victory for Blues and an excellent last game before league action starts.
