Birmingham City are now reportedly leading the pack of championship sides in the hunt for out of contract Ipswich Town midfielder Paul Anderson, according to HITC Sport.

The website understands that sources close to the club are suggesting that a deal for the 26 year old is set to be concluded sometime in the near future. During his two year spell at Portman Road, Anderson scored seven goals and made 68 appearances.

As a free transfer with plenty of experience, if Anderson did move to the Blues it would show the intent that Rowett is looking for next season as many media outlets tip the West Midlands club for an outside playoff chance.

The former Bristol City man has had plenty of admirers since he was released from Town but not one of the rumoured clubs have actually made a concrete offer for him. However, it is now believed that the Blues are set to confirm the signing of Anderson.

Should these rumours be true, Anderson would be the second new signing to arrive at St.Andrews this summer following the arrival of former West Bromwich Albion academy product Alex Jones.
